Sep 23, 2009 Port

APM TERMINALS, a member of the AP Moller-Maersk Group, and Vinalines, part of the Vietnamese National Shipping Lines company, have entered into a joint venture agreement to work together to develop a range of facilities at Vietnamese ports.

As part of its development plan, Vinalines is investing in a series of general cargo terminals, container terminals and transhipment hubs, and was looking for a suitable terminal operator partner which could help expand its existing presence in the Vietnamese market, a statement issued by APM Terminals said.

APM Terminals and Vinalines are already partners in the Cai Mep International Container Terminal, near Ho Chi Minh City, which is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2010 with an initial annual handling capacity of 1.1 million TEU.

APM Terminals senior vice president and head of new terminals Peder Sondergaard said: "Vietnam continues to perform strongly among the emerging economies of the world, and we are very pleased to expand our partnership with Vinalines in developing the port infrastructure necessary to accommodate the growing role of Vietnam in world trade."
