Zhuhai's Gaolan Terminal launches first inter-provincial box shipping line

The Zhuhai's Gaolan Terminal, across from Macaum has started a new domestic short sea route to Jiangsu province's port of Zhangjiagang, Xinhua reported.

Being the terminal's first inter-provincial container shipping line, the service is jointly operated by Zhuhai Port Group and Sinowell Shipping, a domestic liner.

Cargo can be transshipped to ports along Yangtze via Zhangjiagang with the service, thus eliminating the need for shippers from Zhuhai and neighbouring cities to go to Shenzhen or Guangzhou, reducing both cost and time.

Gaolan port area is situated at the southwest of Zhuhai city with a utilisable coastline of 68.5 kilometres, able to accommodate over 100 berths of over 10,000 tonnes. It has a potential capacity of 150 million tonnes.
