Kaliningrad volumes down 24pc in first seven months

THE Russian port of Kaliningrad saw throughput fall 24.1 per cent in the first seven months of this year compared with the same period of 2008.

The Russian Transport Daily Report said exports fell 32.9 per cent and imports were down 13.2 per cent.

Containerised exports slumped 66.3 per cent, boxed imports fell 64.3 per cent and imports of reefer cargo were down 38.4 per cent.

Exports of packaged goods fell 73.5 per cent and their imports dipped 46.7 per cent. Exports of coal and coke were down 82 per cent and those of ferrous metals 54.2 per cent.

Grain exports jumped 71.4 percent but their imports fell 81.8 per cent. Timber exports fell 52.9 per cent.

Oil exports increased 27.2 per cent but oil product exports fell 23.9 percent in the period.
