Sep 14, 2009 Port

The Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT) has pruned its wharfage charges by 10-20 per cent to attract cargo, which has of late started shifting to the nearby Gangavaram port. This charge is paid for using a wharf for handling goods, Exim News Service informs.

"After the commencement of Gangavaram port, bulk cargoes like coking coal, thermal coal, iron ore have started shifting from Vizag Port. If the situation continues, the Port will lose more cargo volumes in the coming days," Mr Krishna Kumar, President of the Visakhapatnam Stevedores’ Association, feared.
