SHENZHEN Hutchison Inland Container Depots (SHICD), a member of Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH), has announced that it is launching a two-phase expansion programme this month in support of the Yantian container terminal.
The existing Phase I of the project will see two additional export-supervisory warehouses built, each covering two hectares. Construction of the first warehouse will start this month and the facility will open next year.
Construction of the second warehouse is to be completed by 2011. Meanwhile, "preparation work for the 25-hectare Phase II project is also well underway", according to a SHICD statement.
Upon completion of the two projects, SHICD will cover a total area of 60 hectares, providing, according to SHICD, the largest warehousing facility in southern China.
SHICD is among the first batch of enterprises authorised by the Chinese government to offer immediate tax rebates once export cargo enters the warehouse. It is also the only "inland port" in the Dapeng Customs Zone that provides on-site declaration services.
SHICD is a key supporting facility for Yantian container terminal, as export cargo from the SHICD depot can be directly transported by GPS-equipped container trucks to Yantian Port for immediate loading, further simplifying customs clearance procedures.
Said SHICD general manager Stephen Au: "Customers will find our many value-added services to be convenient and cost-effective. These services also create local job opportunities."
