As the Port of Tacoma grows, our success will be based on three factors: We have to take care of our customers, build a foundation for growth and be a good neighbor, said Port of Tacoma
Executive Director Timothy J. Farrell.
With these factors in focus, the Port of Tacoma has announced a shift of management responsibilities. Our growth plans, customer focus and consideration for our neighbors requires an organization-wide clarification of roles and development of our internal decision-making process, Farrell said.
The shift of responsibilities follows a 2006-2007 internal assessment that focused on the Port's corporate culture. Our ongoing evaluation of organizational culture revealed several ways that we could achieve our goals, said Farrell. One of them was to group our management functions differently.
For customers, notes Farrell, the convenience and accountability of the Port's business line structure is unchanged. The Port will continue to offer 'one-stop shopping' for our customers.
For Port neighbors, a newly created External Affairs Team will focus on building stronger relationships within the community by combining the areas of public affairs, government relations, community relations and communications.
As we prepare the organization for future growth, internal streamlining of the decision-making process will support the Port's continued position as the most agile and customer-focused Port of the U.S. West Coast, Farrell said.
