Throughput of Aktau port (Kazakhstan) up 31% to 9.7 mln t in Jan-Aug 09

In January-August 2009, Aktau International Seaport (Kazakhstan) handled 9.073.3 million tonnes of cargo (+31%, year-on-year), the port’s press center reports.

In the reported period the port handled 7.484 million tonnes of crude and oil products (+36.8%), 1.055.9 million tonnes of metal (-6.6%), 353,700 tonnes of gtrain (up almost 4-fold). Transshipment of cargo carried by ferries fell by 34%, year-on-year, to 99,700 tonnes while transshipment of other cargoes amounted to 80,000 tonnes (+41.6%, year-on-year).


The port of Aktau is located at the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea. It is the only seaport of Kazakhstan to serve international transportation of dry cargo, oil and oil products.
