THE US Coast Guard is to step-up entry conditions for vessels arriving from the Republic of Congo to conform to the International Shop and Port Facility Security Code from September 15 as the country "presents significant risk of introducing instruments of terror into international maritime commerce".
The US Coast Guard requires those vessels found wanting to be under armed guard while in US ports.
These vessel must ensure that all ISPS security measures are carried out while in the Congo and that each access point is guarded and that guards have total visibility of the exterior of the vessel while in a Congolese port, said the Federal Register notice.
