HOLLAND's Binnenlandse Container Terminals Nederland (BCTN) is pushing forward plans to boost throughput across its five terminals to one million TEU with existing expansion rather than new developments, announced its proprietor and managing director Williem van den Heuvel.
BCTN first half results declined half as much as the deep-sea terminals in Rotterdam. Despite the strength of road transport the results are "remarkable" but are explained by lower prices for inland shipping and an overall move for less container trucking, he said, reported the Port of Rotterdam newsletter.
BCTN operates terminals in Nijmegen (in the east of the Netherlands), Den Bosch (south), Wanssum (southeast) and Hengelo (northeast), and Alblaserdam (east of Rotterdam). Mr van den Heuvel plans to up present volumes of Hengelo's 100,000 TEU to 300,000; Nijmegen 90,000 to 250,000-TEU; Den Bosch's 120,000 to double to 240,000; Wansum from 100,000 to 200,000 and Alblaserdam currently in development to hit 200,000-TEU within three years.
He added that moves for throughput increases would be helped along in partnership with nearby logistics centres as the company has done in Hengelo with Bolk.
