Zebra Enterprise Solutions, a division of Zebra Technologies, announced Haina International Terminals in the Dominican Republic upgraded its in-house terminal operating system (TOS) with NavisTM SPARCS N4 to improve operations and customer service in the competitive Caribbean market.
Haina International Terminals is one of the two major container terminals in the Dominican Republic, handling roughly half of the country’s imports and exports. Haina used its previous TOS for four years before deciding to implement SPARCS N4 to increase performance and efficiency.
“SPARCS N4 was a clear choice for us because of its superior level of customization and flexibility,” said Armando Rivas, General Manager of Operations at the Haina International Terminals. “With Navis we are not required to purchase a separate system to handle our break-bulk cargo, which is important to us since Haina is a multi-purpose port.”
The Web-based SPARCS N4 operating system governs the movement of all container logistics and operations from gate to yard to vessel, and offers users improved customer support, lower operating costs and increased stacking yard capacity. It enables greater control over resources for operations to quickly and intelligently respond to changes or disruptions in the flow of cargo.
“We need the level of flexibility and business intelligence that SPARCS N4 provides to remain competitive while keeping up with government requirements and the changing economic environment,” Rivas added.
The system will allow Haina International Terminals to completely automate terminal operations, increasing performance and efficiency and decreasing costs by 20 percent. The Business Intelligence model included within SPARCS N4 will allow Haina to provide customers reliable, timely, live information improving on its already strong level of service.
Bill Walsh, General Manager at Zebra Enterprise Solutions, said SPARCS N4 will help the terminal succeed, especially as the economy turns and shipping increases.
“SPARCS N4 is designed to provide the kind of enhanced service that will change the way Haina’s customers view the terminal,” Walsh said. “The level of customization and information SPARCS N4 delivers will help Haina International Terminals remain competitive and set the terminal up for success as the economy and shipping volume improves.”
