China Shipping's CSCL Jakarta has become the first vessel to call at the Port of Seattle's new Terminal 30 where it discharged and loaded containers from the Terminal's North Berth.
"This is the culmination of several years of hard work by port staff, SSA Terminals and China Shipping," said Charlie Sheldon, managing director of the port's seaport division. "We're grateful to have SSA and China Shipping as partners and we look forward to a long, mutually prosperous relationship."
According to yhe Shipping Gazette, the Port of Seattle invested nearly US$50 million in the 70-acre, two-berth facility. China Shipping and SSA Terminals will operate the terminal in a joint venture under a long-term agreement.
China Shipping has called at the Port of Seattle since 1999. The carrier's previous home in Seattle was at the Port's Terminal 18, a statement from port authorities said.
