Port of Houston Port nine more Finnish Konecrane RTGs

Aug 6, 2009 Port

FINNISH crane manufacturer Konecranes has agreed to deliver nine rubber tyre gantry (RTG) cranes to the Texas Gulf port of Houston.

These new cranes are said to be the first Konecranes fuel-saving RTGs for Port of Houston Authority, which already has 40 Konecranes RTGs in its terminals, said nordicbusinessreport.com.

The cranes are due for delivery in July 2010 for the port's Bayport Container Terminal. Bayport opened in January 2007 and is currently undergoing its second expansion to 155 acres of container yard and 3,330 feet of wharf.

The latest crane order will provide Bayport with 27 Konecranes 16-wheel RTGs. The cranes feature a variable-speed diesel alternator system, which lowers fuel consumption by eliminating high-speed idling. It also reduces noise and emissions.
