New berth commences trial operations

Trial operations have commenced at a new - and 15th berth - at Shenzhen's Yantian International Container Terminal's Expansion Project.

According to the Shipping Gazette, the new facility covers 38.87 hectares and has a 419.2 metre quay with a depth alongside and approach channel of 16 metres, said a YICT statement.The new berth accommodates 12,000-TEU ships, using eight dual-hoist, tandem-lift quay cranes, said the statement, which added that each has an outreach of 65 metres and can handle two FEU simultaneously.

In 2005, Hutchison Port Holdings and Yantian Port Group (YPG) signed a joint-venture contract to develop the CNY10 billion (US$1.4 billion) YICT Expansion Project, which includes the construction of six deep-water container berths.
