Zhejiang provincial port throughput increases 20.6pc in June

PORTS in eastern China's Zhejiang province posted a 20.6 per cent in cargo volume increase to 93.1 million tonnes in June, reports Xinhua.

The provincial coastal ports handled 63.1 million tonnes of cargo with a 19 per cent hike over a year ago, while its inland river ports moved 30 million tonnes, rising 24 per cent. Both ports handled 22.3 million tonnes of foreign trade cargo with a 13 per cent increase and 918,000 TEU, falling 7.7 per cent year on year.

It is pointed out that although the province experienced a decrease in container throughput compared to the same month last year, the TEU figure still increased 6.7 per cent month to month and hit a record of 900,000 TEU in the first half.

In the first half, provincial ports recorded a 2.7 per cent increase in volume to 478 million tonnes, of which its coastal ports handled 330 million tonnes, up five per cent while its inland river ports went up to 148 million tonnes, a 7.8 per cent increase. All provincial ports handled 119 million tonnes of foreign cargo enjoying a 0.5 per cent increase over all, but suffering a 9.7 per cent fall in containers to 4.95 million TEU.
