Tianjin port announced growth in cargo and container volume

Jul 27, 2009 Port

The Port of Tianjin experienced a growth in cargo and container volume in the first half of the year, despite facing the global downturn and resulting export slump, reports Xinhua.

The port handled 184 million tonnes of cargo with a 1.2 per cent rise in the first half, while moving 4.16 million TEU, up 1.9 per cent from a year earlier.
It is said that most of the increase is attributed to domestic demand generated by Beijing's stimulus package with the port operating more domestic movement of steel and coal.

In the first half of the year, the port loaded and discharged 47.5 million tonnes of iron ore, a 53 per cent increase, and received 198 Cape size ore carrier movements.
