PPG United Kingdom and Ireland member, Quality Freight Group (QFG), and United States member TransGroup Worldwide Logistics are combining forces to deliver a shipment of 19 aircraft Passenger Boarding Bridges (PBBs) along with their component parts from Utah to Dublin Airport’s new Terminal 2.
The new €395m terminal is designed to handle 15 million passengers per year with the PBBs all delivered by October this year.
TransGroup’s client JBT AeroTech is one of the world’s leading suppliers of PBBs. These units are 21m long, 3.7m wide x 3.7m high and weigh 28tons each. The PBBs are transported by road from Utah to the US port of Portsmouth, where they are transhipped under TransGroup supervision. The PBBs were then shipped on the Atlantic Container Line (ACL) service to Liverpool. Once at Liverpool the PBBs are transferred by crane from ship’s mafi’s to QFQ’s 60’ rear wheel steering trailers.
QFG bond the cargo and ship it to Dublin where they clear it through Irish Customs, arrange the necessary out-of-gauge transit permits and deliver the PBBs under escort to Terminal 2.
PPG general manger Kevin Stephens said the network’s member partnership had again demonstrated the benefits of using multi-task specialists with the skills to collaborate and safely deliver project cargos anywhere in the world.
