Zhejiang's seaport capacity becomes third largest in China

EASTERN China's Zhejiang province currently has the third largest seaport capacity in the nation, Xinhua reported.

Since 2000, the province has built 47 new berths of over 10,000 tonnes, bringing an extra capacity of 174 million tonnes. By the end of 2008, Zhejiang already had 128 seaport berths over 10,000 tonnes with an aggregate capacity of 500 million tonnes.

Last year, the province handled 645 million tonnes of cargo, which was the second largest in China, and 11.5 million TEU, which is the fourth largest in China. Ningbo-Zhoushan Port achieved a container throughput of 10.9 million TEU and a cargo tonnage of 520 million tonnes.
