Xiamen port's Taiwan trade hits 114,000 TEU

XIAMEN port registered volume of 114,000 TEU in its trade with Taiwan in the first five months of 2009, consisting of 55,000 TEU inbound and 59,000 TEU outbound, reports Xinhua.

Seven shipping lines in Xiamen port have operated 10 direct cross-strait services, covering Kaohsiung, Taichung and Keelung with a monthly frequency of 48 sailings.

Xiamen port is the nearest mainland port to Taiwan and its direct cross-strait services have helped Taiwan shippers and shipping enterprises to mitigate the current global economic downturn.
