Ports of Azov-and-Don Basin increase throughput by 1% to 7.2 mln t in H1 09

In the first half of 2009 the ports of Azov-and-Don Basin handled 7.235 million tonnes of cargo (+1%, year-on-year), press center of Azov-and-Don Basin Department reports according to RBC.

According to the source, the growth rates fell mainly because of the water level decrease at Kochetkovskaya-Rostov section in the last decade of June.

In the reported period, shipment of grain and oil crops increased 4.3 times to 3.91 million tonnes. Transit of oil products grew by 9.2% to 1.438 million tonnes. Export of scrap metal fell 5.3 times to 187,391 tonnes, export of coal – by 44.2% to 476,450 tonnes, import of cement - 3 time sto 261,900 tonnes.

The length of waterways within the competence of the Azov-and-Don Basin Administration is 800 kilometers.
