In the first half of 2009, commercial seaports of Ukraine handled 52.3 million tonnes of cargo (-20%, year-on-year), APK-Inform refers to operational data of Ukraine’s Ministry of Transshipment and Communications. According to the source, the decrease was registered in 14 of 18 Ukrainian state ports.
The increase was demonstrated by the ports of the “second-level” throughput group: Kerch, Sevastopol, Kherson, as well as by a representative of “minor” ports – Ust-Danube.
Transit transshipment via the ports fell by 30% to 19.1 million tonnes. In this sector the growth rates have been retained by Crimean port alone – Kerch (+36% - to 1.3 mln t) and Feodosia (+28% - to 0.8).
The leading group – three ports of Big Odessa (Odessa, iljichevsk and Yuzhny) decreased tran by 17% to 31.5 million tonnes with the region’s transit component decreasing to 31% to 12.5 mln t.
