Wainio heads Florida seaport council

Richard Wainio, port director and chief executive of the Tampa Port Authority, has been elected chairman of the Florida Seaport Transportation and Economic Development Council.
  

The council is a public policy making group for the State of Florida created by statute and charged with enhancing the state's economic development mission by facilitating the implementation of important seaport improvement projects.
  

The council was created within the state Department of Transportation and comprises port directors of the 14 publicly owned seaports and a representative from the state DOT, Department of Community Affairs, and the Governor's Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development.
