Liebherr Sunderland Works Ltd in Sunderland, UK, recently received the Queens’ Award for Enterprise in the "International Trade" category.
This is Britain's most important award for entrepreneurial achievement. The award in the "International Trade" recognises companies which can demonstrate substantial growth and commercial success in international markets.
The Queen’s Awards are presented annually on the suggestion of the Prime Minister and after verification by a committee consisting of government, business and trade union representatives. The winners of the Queen’s Awards are announced on the birthday of Queen Elisabeth II. The award ceremony takes place later with the Lord Lieutenant officially representing the queen.
Liebherr Sunderland Works Ltd. was established exactly 20 years ago in Sunderland as a manufacturing site for maritime cranes and handling equipment. The range of products includes ship's cranes, offshore cranes and mobile harbour cranes. More than 85 % of the products are sold abroad, with China, Singapore and South Korea accounting for half of exports. Since 2005, the company has increased foreign sales by more than 40%.
