Panama Canal to Be Broadened Out

The management company of the Panama Canal announced the tender on the canal widening, reports RIA Novosti quoting the press-release of Panama Canal Authority (ACP).

It is said that the company has issued the request to build the new stage of docks. At first the company will examine the projects of different companies and pick out 4 of them. At the second stage Panama Canal Authority will name the winner.

The short list of 4 companies will be announced in November 2007 and by the end of 2008 Panama Canal Authority will have named the winner. 

The representatives of the companies participated in tender will visit the place of the building on September, 12. On September, 13 the will be a session during which the projects will be presented. 

According to Panama Canal Authority, the building of the new docks will help to increase the capacity of the canal by 2 times.
