AIRBRIDGECARGO Airlines, the scheduled cargo business of the Volga-Dnepr Group, has landed the Wings of Russia Award for 'Airline of the Year-Cargo Carrier Operating in Domestic and International Air Lines' at an awards ceremony held in Moscow.
The airline won the accolade based on its growth and development in 2008 and the balanced strategy applied to its development by the Volga-Dnepr Group, a company statement said.
In 2008, AirBridgeCargo Airlines achieved sales growth of 49 per cent to US$452 million, while freight turnover reached 1,102 thousand FTK's. Major factors which were said to have contributed to AirBridgeCargo's growth last year were the improved efficiency of its sales system and the expansion of the airline's route network.
The key to success for a young airline like AirBridgeCargo was the overall success shown by the whole of Volga-Dnepr Group. This was secured through a combination of charter and scheduled operations within a single business structure, said Executive President of AirBridgeCargo Airlines, Alexey Isaikin.
Traditionally, Wings of Russia Award recipients are chosen by way of secret ballot by members of the Public Award Board, which comprise more than 120 civil aviation experts, aviation officials, and representatives of state-owned and private companies and media organisations.
