LAX freight traffic declines 20.8pc, but March sparks hope

May 5, 2009 Logistics

LOS ANGELES International Airport, considered one of the largest air gateways for Asia experienced a freight traffic drop of 20.8 per cent in March year on year, the eighth month of double digit decline.

But despite the drop, March was one of the best months since October's fall of 14.8 per cent only slightly less of a decline from February's 18 per cent, which some said signalled recovery.

Since it reported a tonnage slump of 17.5 per cent in September the picture has worsened adding to a 16-month run of drops attributed to US imports from Asia drying up.
