THE latest figures from US Department of Commerce show that China was still the largest sources of imports to US among Asian countries last year with a volume of 881,000 tonnes, which was 10.1 per cent less than in 2007, Logistics Week reported.
The global economic turmoil has resulted in fall of exports to US in many Asian countries. US imports from Asia totalled 1.66 million tonnes last year, dropping 13 per cent year on year.
Hong Kong's imports and exports to US also fell last year. Its exports to US fell 28 per cent, the biggest fall in Asia to only 24,700 tonnes, ranking Hong Kong as the 11th biggest exporter to the US in Asia.
Only Vietnam posted growth with a 10.7 per cent jump in volume of 40,000 tonnes last year, up 10.7 per cent. Vietnamese aviation industry growth also contributed to the rise in exports to America.
