Heathrow this week was named Transport Team of the Year for their work leading the Heathrow Area Transport Forum (HATF). The award recognises the successful public transport network established for Terminal 5 and the effective delivery of that network through building partnerships with transport operators and local authorities.
The award comes as an early indication from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) survey show that 40.8% of Heathrow’s passengers use public transport to access the airport. This is an increase of 2% in just 1 year and the work of HATF in establishing excellent Terminal 5 transport facilities has had a substantial impact in achieving this.
Matthew White, Surface Access Programme Manager, commented: This is a fantastic reward for four years of collaborative team work. It is great for Heathrow to be recognised for its efforts in actively encouraging sustainable travel which helps to make Heathrow the preferred choice for passengers and an easier place to access for staff.
BAA has worked with bus and coach companies as part of HATF to establish five new bus routes, extended 2 bus routes, extended FreeFlow Heathrow scheme that provides free bus travel around Heathrow, increased bus frequencies, increased the extensive coaching network, and establishing a first-class transport interchange facility at Terminal 5.
The Heathrow Area Transport Forum (HATF) was formed in 1994 with a focus on creating and sustaining a vibrant public transport infrastructure to meet Heathrow's needs. For Terminal 5, the HATF has achieved challenging targets by adopting an innovative partnering approach with the large number of stakeholders and transport operators involved.
