AutoVaz is examining the opportunity to dispatch its products to Latin America via the port of Saint-Petersburg. Yesterday Pert Chechushkin, the head of the car export department of AutoVAZ, tried to know if it is possible or not to export 5-6 thousand cars via the terminal Onega owned by Oslo Marine. It should be pointed out that currently the company supplies cars via Estonia.
According to Sergey Semermov, the deputy sales manager of Onega, in the next future AutoVaz could not use services of the terminal. At the present time the area of terminal is 2.3 hectares. Complex is now specialized on import. Onega could develop export services when the second stage of the terminal will put into operation. Oslo Marine intends to expand its territory in the port of Saint-Petersburg by 6.5 hectares.
At the same time the company GEFCO (a part of Peugeot-Citroen) provided warehousing and transport services will possibly include the Estonian port of Sillamae in its logistics scheme.
Svetlana Ledeneva, the head of the business devepoment department of GEFCO Russia, said that one of the reasons of such a decision is not to overload the terminals of Saint-Petersburg. But according to the market players, the terminals of Saint-Petersburg can cope with GEFCO’s cargo.
