AIRASIA will launch its first Chinese route in 2009 from Kuala Lumpur to Tianjin beginning April 2, which marks the airlines' first step into North China air market, says Logistics Week.
AirAsia said that the new service would be operated by AirAsia X, the low cost long-haul airline affiliated to it. This route is part of AirAsia's strategic expansion plan in China and East Asia, in response to strong demands from Malaysia and the greater Asean population, as well as China, said AirAsia X chief executive officer, Azran Osman-Rani.
The leading low fare airline in Asia, AirAsia has been expanding rapidly since 2001, to become the first and largest low cost carrier in Asia. With a fleet of 72 aircrafts, AirAsia flies to over 63 domestic and international destinations with 106 routes, and operates over 400 flights daily from hubs located in Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. To date, AirAsia has flown over 60 million passengers across the region and continues to create a more extensive route network through its associate companies of Thai AirAsia, Indonesia AirAsia and AirAsia X.
AirAsia's China network currently includes Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Guilin, Haikou, Macau and Hong Kong.
