China shows great interest in Bremerhaven

Mar 11, 2009 Logistics

A Chinese delegation of top managers from the automotive industry, as well as representatives of chambers, associations and media, will be visiting the federal state of Bremen from 11 to 14 March 2009. This coincides with “BREMER LOGISTIKTAG 2009”, held in Bremerhaven on 12 and 13 March, for which China is a partner nation.
In the lead-up, the delegation will be heading to Bremen on 11 March, at the invitation of BLG LOGISTICS. The programme for BLG China Day includes will include visits to the car and container terminals, as well as Europe’s largest car workshop. In the evening, the guests will be received by Ralf Nagel, Bremen’s Senator for Economic Affairs and Ports, at Bremen’s town hall.
Automotive logistics is one of the focuses of the “BREMER LOGISTIKTAG 2009”. In several specialised presentations, the speakers will also highlight Bremerhaven’s range of services as a European hub for the world automotive market.
As a port of entry for Europe, Bremerhaven is of particular interest to export-oriented car manufacturers from China. Bremerhaven is one of the world’s largest automobile ports, and is the biggest location in the BLG terminal and service network. In 2008, over two million vehicles were handled and some 500,000 cars technically processed in Bremerhaven. BLG processed a total of 5.7 million (2007: 5.1) vehicles last year, making it a market leader in Europe.
Bremerhaven‘s success story as an automobile port began at the end of the 1970s, when Japanese car manufacturers started aiming their export offensive at Europe. This meant the seaside city was not only a loading port for German export vehicles, but also a port of discharge for the cars imported from Japan. Korean manufacturers followed in the 1990s, and now the Chinese manufacturers are coming into the European market.
