Hactl announces February tonnage throughput

Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) today released its tonnage figures for February 2009.  A total of 133,624 tonnes were handled in February, down 22% year-on-year.  Cumulative tonnage for the first two months of the year was 276,378 tonnes, down 26.9% year-on-year.
Import volume for February was 38,587 tonnes, down 20% against February last year. Aggregate import volume for the first two months of 2009 was 75,218 tonnes, representing a decline of 27.9% year-on-year.
Export volume for February was 64,546 tonnes, down 25.3% year-on-year.  Exports to Europe were particularly weak, with a significant decline of 37.7%.  Total export volume for January and February was 140,237 tonnes, representing a year-on-year decline of 29.4%. 
The transshipment volume was 30,491 tonnes in February, registering a decline of 17% compared with last year.  Cumulative transshipment tonnage for the first two months was 60,923 tonnes, down 18.8% year-on-year.
“Notwithstanding the current difficult time, we continuously strive to provide more comprehensive service, streamline work processes and invest in upgrading facilities and hardware to make sure we will be fully geared up for resumed demand upon economic recovery.  It remains our top priority to uphold Hong Kong’s regional aviation hub status,” said Ms Lilian Chan, General Manager of Marketing and Customer Service.
