30 August 2007 during a conference in the regional industry and transport department on the development of the Murmansk transport hub Andrey Volodin, representative of the Federal agency of sea and river transport of Russia told that the performance potential of Murmansk port is evaluated at 1 mln. containers per year.
He also noted that, possibly, the examination complex for the large-dimensioned cargoes will be built on the west coast of Kolsky peninsula. In this case the expenditures for its construction may exceed 1 bln. rub instead of the previously planned 300 mln. rub.
