At the 2009 Asia Pacific Frost & Sullivan Aerospace & Defence Awards ceremony, aviation IT specialist, SITA was named today as Airport Support Service Provider of the Year, acknowledging its important role in meeting the logistical challenge posed by the huge influx of visitors for last year’s Beijing Olympic Games.
The award follows extensive research by Frost & Sullivan into airport service providers based in Asia Pacific. SITA’s long history of achievement in the region was identified as its core strength and the company’s position as market leader has been confirmed by its high profile contribution to the success of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
During this historic event, SITA’s common-use check-in platform handled a new daily record of 260,000 passengers at Beijing Capital International Airport (BCIA).  In addition, SITA set up a disaster recovery data centre in preparation for the Games and reached an agreement to make its systems available to domestic airports throughout the country.
The award recognizes SITA as a trusted IT services provider working with over 120 airports and 260 airlines in Asia Pacific. Founded in February 1949, SITA has long been an integral part of the air transport industry and has played a key role in developing and modernizing airport infrastructure throughout the region. Most recently, in India, SITA introduced the country’s first common use self-service kiosks and launched the first modern airport operations management system at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA), Mumbai.
Paul Dalton, SITA Regional Vice-President North Asia and Pacific, accepting the award on behalf of the company, said: “This is a true endorsement of our commitment to the air transport industry in this region and it is a wonderful tribute in the year of our 60th anniversary.  The Asia-Pacific airports with which we work are leaders on the global stage; they are much-admired for their innovation and high service levels and SITA is honoured to be recognised as the key provider supporting their business.”
Frost & Sullivan quantified several market factors for the service providers, paying close attention to the balance of their operational performance, efficiency, quality of products and services and business strategies. This process included interviews with service provider officials, customers and suppliers.
Nor Azman Aziz, Consultant, Aerospace & Defense, Asia Pacific, Frost & Sullivan said: SITA has demonstrated excellent performance in 2008 providing top level services and products for the airport industry. The company’s business strategies are well placed to cope with the current volatile market. Its offering of technology to increase efficiency, expansion of capabilities in airports globally, and value added services, makes SITA an unbeatable choice for expanding airports in the region.
Catherine Mayer, Vice President Airport Solutions, SITA said: This award demonstrates SITA's commitment to the air transport industry not only in Asia Pacific but globally. From communications and infrastructure solutions, to leading technologies such as self-service and common-use processing, to the single largest RFID deployment in Asia at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), we are the proud and long-standing partner for airports and airlines.
