Feb 9, 2008 Logistics

Caribbean Community officials are joining the campaign to have the United States renew the Caribbean Basin Trade Partnership Act.

According to a release on the Caricom Web site, the multinational organization said the trade agreement, scheduled to expire in September, should be renewed an expanded to encompass a wider range of economic activities.

Caricom hopes to see the agreement expanded to a more permanent agreement to make long-term U.S.-Caribbean trade more predictable. He has also proposed changes in the agreement to include the services sector.

Caricom is also seeking more assistance in building export opportunities for Caribbean nations, and to add language that would recognize the different levels of economic advancement between the United States and Caricom nations.
