Sony to Build Logistic Center in Ukraine

Aug 31, 2007 Logistics

Sony will build a logistic center to develop its trade in the countries of the Caucasian region and the Central Asia not in Georgia but in the Ukraine.

According to Kommersant quoting Joseph Kokoladze, the director of the Sony representative office in Georgia, such a decision was made due to the conflict with the Georgian authorities concerning the breaking of the tenancy contract of the building in the center of Tbilisi.

According to J.Kokoladze, the corporation revised its plans and decided to build the handling station in the Ukraine. The cost of the Georgian project was estimated at $25 mn.

He also said that the company intends to ask for the compensation. According to the experts, due to the contract breaking the company’s loss totals $5.3 mn.

At the same time, according to the market players, the problem with the building tenancy is just a pretext to revise the handling complex plans. The establishing of the logistic complex in the Ukraine is more profitable than in Georgia while it would be possible for the company to transport cargo by sea.
