Minister of Transport and Communications of Finland Anu Vehviläinen says she wants a thorough examination of opening domestic rail traffic to competition.
Vehviläinen pointed out that rail services have been opened to competition in a number of European countries, including Sweden and Britain. She said that the discussion on the issue in Finland has been very one-sided.
- Discussion of open competition easily leads to the example of Britain, where it was a complete failure, she says.
The Minister would like a thorough study made of the issue.
- We should have better studies and analysis of what it would mean in Finland.
