Virgin to handle V Australia cargo operations

Feb 11, 2009 Logistics

Virgin Atlantic Cargo said Monday it has won a contract to manage cargo product for Australia’s new long-haul airline, V Australia.

V Australia, the long-haul arm of Australian domestic carrier Virgin Blue, will start operating three times a week between Sydney and Los Angeles from Feb. 27, then increasing to daily on March 29. In April the airline will also start operating flights between Brisbane to Los Angeles.

Virgin Atlantic Cargo's existing U.S. operation will look after the new services to Sydney from Los Angeles, a key air freight gateway that Virgin has served for more than 18 years. Virgin operates to 30 direct destinations out of London and 150 on-forwarding destinations.

“This is an exciting opportunity, which links our existing networks into Australia and the USA,” said John Lloyd, director of Virgin Atlantic Cargo.
