RF Ministry of Transport: Cargo Turnover Increased by 8.2%

According to the RF Ministry of transport, in January-June 2007 total commercial cargo turnover made by all means of transport (except pipeline) increased by 8.2% and totaled 1120.45 bn ton-km. The commercial cargo transportation volume grew by 2.1% and amounted to 2002.5 mn tons.


Cargo turnover growth of air transport – 11.1%, rail transport – 9.0%, inland shipping – 6.6%, car – 3.9%. 92% of commercial cargo turnover was done rail transport of general use.


The share of motor transport is 42%, rail transport of general use – 32.9%.


Cargo volume transported by train came up by 4% and totaled 658.4 mn tons. Inland cargo transportation grew by 25% - up to 55.2 mn tons. Sea cargo transportation was reduced by 0.3%.


According to the Ministry, during the first half of the current year compared to the last year same period cargo handling volume via the sea ports of Russia and other stevedoring companies increased by 8.7% - up to 218.1 mn tons, including 128.3 mn tons of liquid cargo (+ 8.6%) and  89.7 mn tons of dry cargo (+8.8 %).


Tariffs on cargo transportation increased about 7% (by 8% - in 2006). Besides tariffs’ index on cargo transportation is lower than price index of producers of industrial products (14.6%) and electric power (11.7%).
