Railwaymen prepare for a strike

Feb 13, 2009 Logistics

Solidarność unionists from PKP Przewozy Regionalne in the Polish city of Łódź announced a strike, which would paralyze rail traffic in the region, Railway Market reports.

A form and an exact date of this protest will be agreed between 20 and 21 of January in Warsaw.

Unionists worry, that there will be lay-offs among railway workers. Ministry of Infrastructure assured them, that before PKP PR will be taken over by local governments, a packt on employee guarantees will be signed. It did not happen, so now railwaymen prepare themselves for a strike.

Solidarność considers different variants of the protest, from blockades of tracks to leaving work places. Marshal office in Łódź hopes to reach an agreement with the union before the strike takes place.
