THE Philippines busiest cargo hub in Davao city is in need of an air cargo facility effect delivery of the country's main agricultural exports, says the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc (DCCCII).
We need to move fruit and vegetables faster, said DCCCII president Simeon Marfori in a from Philippines News Agency report. The proposal of the chamber is to have an air cargo facility. With this, the movement of the goods is fast, and the cost is cheaper.
Mr Marfori believes that a proposal for a food terminal three years ago is key, but requires investment to acquire property and to produce a cold chain facility to serve as consolidation, processing and distribution centre.
A likely location for the facility is the old 24-hectare Davao Ramie Textile mill previously used to produce ramie textile in the mid 60s and now owned by the National Development Company, he added.
Such a food terminal is one of the proposed projects for the Davao Region of Mindanao Island from some 30 regional agencies and state universities and colleges for implementation in the Davao Region.
He added that key stakeholders identified in the project so far include the Davao City government, Southern Philippines Construction Core Group (SPCCG), National Development Company, Department of Trade and Industry, Development Bank of the Philippines and the Department of Agriculture.
