Supply lines to NATO and U.S. forces in the border region between Pakistan and Afghanistan have been interrupted as a Pakistan-led assault on militants in the area is underway, international news outlets reported Tuesday.
The raid on Taliban militants in the lawless tribal region has temporarily closed the only supply route (the famed Khyber Pass) between cargo terminals in Pakistan and Western forces in Afghanistan. The terminals have been targets of repeated attacks in recent weeks, including the destruction earlier this month of more than one hundred Humvees to be sent to troops in Afghanistan. Aside from the attacks on supplies, kidnappings and killings in the region have been increasing in recent weeks.
