USDA allocates $100 million to McGovern-Dole food aid program

 The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Monday that more than 72,000 tons of agricultural commodities valued at about $100 million will be allocated under the McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program for fiscal year 2009 as funds become available.

   The assistance will help children, women and schools in 15 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The largest allocations so far include Pakistan ($10 million), Rwanda ($9.5 million), Yemen ($9.1 million), Liberia ($8.3 million), and Guatemala ($8.2 million).
