Okay Airways keeps cargo flying but ends passenger flights

Dec 26, 2008 Logistics

CHINESE privately owned Okay Airways has suspended all passenger flights following a flight ban from China's Civil Aviation Administration (CAAC), reports Logistics Week.

Okay Airways chairman Wang Junjin filed an application to CAAC last month, requesting the regulator to authorise suspening Okay Airways passenger service because of its corporate governance structure cannot comply with the safety and aviation regulations, due to internal disputes.

The airline promised it would not stop payments to employees or layoff staff during its passenger service suspension and that its cargo flights would continue.

Okay Airways, the first private airline in China, commenced operations in 2005. Before the suspension, the airline operated both commercial passenger and cargo flights in China. The private carrier is also a local partner of FedEx Express.
