Atlas Air and Polar Air Cargo crew to join Teamsters

ATLAS AIR and Polar Air Cargo crewmembers are expected to join International Brotherhood of Teamsters' growing membership of airline employees totalling 43,000.


A joint statement from the two air carriers owned by one of the world's largest Boeing 747 cargo carrier's, Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, was filed with the US National Mediation Board with results of its representative election due on December 20.


Teamster president Jim Hoffa said that Atlas and Polar workers will benefit by its union support in contract negotiations with Atlas Worldwide management adding, The Teamsters are continuing to gain momentum in the aviation industry.


If this goes ahead the two carriers will be the responsibility of Captain David Bourne under the Teamsters airline division, representing overall 1.4 million workers in the US and Canada.
