FEDEX Ground has confirmed that it will build a 400,000-square foot distribution centre in Kernersville, North Carolina, which local officials say will make the Triad area a more highly ranked transport hub nationally for distribution and logistics.
FedEx Ground's south eastern distribution hub is a timely balm for an ailing regional economy, reported The Business Journal of the Greater Triad Area. The company has pledged to bring $110 million in investment to its operation in the Samet Corp-owned Triad Business Park just off of Business 40.
Site preparation work is expected to start shortly, with construction of the hub expected to commence next spring, said a source close to the deal who declined to be identified.
FedEx Ground is still trying to obtain its erosion control permit, but most other permits are in place, the source said.
