Obama reiterates infrastructure priority

Nov 25, 2008 Logistics

President-elect Barack Obama said in a Saturday radio address that he has directed his economic team to formulate an economic recovery plan that will save or create 2.5 million jobs by January 2011.

Obama said he intends to sign the plan shortly after taking office in two months.

While vague on details, Obama said the nationwide initiative would target investment towards rebuilding roads and bridges, modernizing schools and alternative energy sources because they have long-term benefits in addition to creating jobs.

They represent an early down payment on the type of reform my administration bring to Washington. A government that spends wisely, focuses on what works and puts the public interest ahead of the same special interests that have come to dominate our politics, he said.

Obama said he will seek input and ideas from both sides of the political spectrum, but what is not negotiable is the need for immediate action.
