Darwin a hotspot for birdstrike: aviation survey

The latest aviation figures for the past 10 years reveal Darwin has one of the highest rates of birdstrikes in the country.


The statistics released by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau show from 2000 to 2008, 532 aircraft were affected by birdstrikes, only Sydney and Brisbane had more.


While in Alice Springs for the same period, bird strikes affected 138 aircraft.


The figures also reveal from 1998 to 2007 that 16 people were killed in aviation accidents in the Territory.
