FedEx speeds up Europe-East Coast transit times

FedEx Express customers in Europe will now be able to reach major U.S. East Coast cities by the next day compared to two-business days following an upgrade of standard International Priority service, the overnight package and freight delivery provider said Tuesday.

The service upgrade will also allow later cut-off times for pick ups of up to six hours.

The new service will deliver to Washington, D.C.; New York; Newark, N.J.; Philadelphia; Boston; and Baltimore by 3 p.m. Eastern time at no additional cost, FedEx said. The same service will also be available from European gateway cities through FedEx International Priority service.

FedEx will launch a new westbound transatlantic flight using an MD-11 freighter between Charles de Gaulle Airport near Paris and Newark to support the service upgrade. The new freighter will fly daily Tuesday through Friday. The carrier will also introduce new Airbus A210 flights, including flights originating from Barcelona and Budapest-Vienna, to offer customers in these areas later pick-up times for connection to the Paris flight.
