Transportation attorney Harry C. Ames Jr., who founded Washington-based law firm Ames, Hill and Ames, reportedly died on Aug. 27 in Irvington, Va., as the result of a heart attack. He was 95.
Ames is best known for successfully arguing the "ingot molds" case before the U.S. Supreme Court in the 1960s. The important outcome of the case was the resolution of rate differentials between railroads and barge operators.
According to the Sept. 1 Washington Post, Ames represented more than 287 trucking and barge companies during his career.
