cargo counts to become part of Lufthansa Cargo

Sep 1, 2008 Logistics

In 2003, Lufthansa created a company, cargo counts, to provide airlines whose main business was carrying passengers cargo services.

Thursday Lufthansa said it would dissolve cargo counts and fold its activities into those of its main Lufthansa Cargo subsidiary in the next year.

The original idea, Lufthansa explained, was that at many airlines, there often are not enough resources left for the cargo business, despite the fact that industry growth forecasts indicate enormous business opportunities which could substantially contribute to an airline's overall profit.

Lufthansa said by hiring the Lufthansa subsidiary airlines could take the fast lane to overall profitability by entrusting freight management to cargo counts (the company spells its name with all lower case letters).

Carsten Spohr, chairman of the executive board of Lufthansa Cargo, said, Through the integration of cargo counts we are provided with operational synergy effects and will further increase the economic efficiency of Lufthansa Cargo Group.

cargo counts customers mainly include tourist airlines like Condor or Sun Express as well as marketing the capacities of the Italian airline AirOne and of Croatia Airlines.
